Yves Durif's Shampoo Technique
Did you know that there is a better way to shampoo? Beautiful hair begins with a healthy scalp.
The Yves Durif Shampoo Technique was created to address the fact that people do not properly cleanse their scalp and roots. Too much emphasis is placed on the hair itself, which needs less shampoo than the roots, where the most toxins and oils are produced. This technique will also extend the life of your products because you will be using less and shampooing less often! Treat yourself to the luxury of a salon shampoo service right in your own home.
All you will need for perfectly clean scalp and hair, is a small applicator bottle (one that holds about 4 ounces of liquid and has a tip like a honey bottle), a high-quality Shampoo and Conditioner – we suggest Shu Uemura – and the Yves Durif Comb.
“I know that telling you there is a new way to shampoo is like telling you there is a new way to breathe,” says Yves Durif, “but I guarantee your hair will feel cleaner and stay clean longer. I have implemented this technique in my salon for many years. My technique ensures that your shampoo is concentrated where oils are produced, rather than being wasted on your drier ends that don't require much cleansing. It works for all hair types and textures, though the longer and thicker your hair, the more crucial and beneficial the technique.”
To achieve squeaky-clean hair, Yves recommends using a small applicator bottle (one that holds about 4 ounces of liquid and has a tip like a honey bottle), a high-quality Shampoo and Conditioner – he suggests Sisley Paris’ Hair Rituel line – and the Yves Durif Comb.
Step 1: Apply
Using your small applicator bottle that is pre-filled with half shampoo and half water, apply the mixture to your scalp, section by section, after wetting your hair. (Precision not necessary.) This method keeps the shampoo at the roots instead of it getting lost down the drain.
Step 2: Massage
Massage the shampoo mixture thoroughly into the roots of your hair, paying close attention to the areas around the temples, behind the ears, and at the nape of the neck.
Step 3: Comb
Using the Yves Durif Comb, gently comb hair from roots to the ends. This action will bring the shampoo through the length of the hair and will clean tips without abrasion. Keep combing while rinsing out the shampoo.
Step 4: Condition
Apply a walnut-sized amount of conditioner to your hair, avoiding the roots, and comb through to evenly distribute. Again, keep combing while rinsing out the conditioner.
Step 5: Finish
Finish with a cold-water rinse for a complete closure of the hair follicle.
Your hair will be incredibly shiny and will detangle effortlessly. This is the real secret for having the cleanest and healthiest hair and can be used on every hair texture and length. Enjoy!
